The Peter Moores Foundation aims to encourage the provision of opportunities in education across a broad spectrum of society.
In 1991 the Peter Moores Foundation endowed the first academic posts in undergraduate Management Studies to be established at Oxford University. This paved the way for the development of the Saïd Business School. On the initiative of Sir Peter, in September 2004 the Foundation announced a new donation to create the Peter Moores Lecturership in Chinese Business Studies.

In 2006 the Saïd Business School came top for undergraduate business and management education in both The Times and The Guardian newspapers' league tables.
Granted a life peerage in 1975 David Pitt was at the helm of the Community Relations Commission from 1968-1977, helped shape the 1976 legislation outlawing racial discrimination and was President of the British Medical Association from 1985-88.

The 'Stay at School' project was set up by the Lord Pitt Foundation to encourage black children to continue their education beyond school leaving age. Peter Moores Foundation contributed funds to support the scheme within the Liverpool and Manchester black communities.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a UK charity dedicated to young people. It helps over 275,000 young people every year to develop the attitudes and skills they need to succeed in life.

At the beginning of the 1980s, the Peter Moores Foundation was concerned that the black community suffered from a lack of self esteem and available role models. A project with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award was set up to send Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi MBE around Britain as a role model for black youth. This initiative has been continued by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Funds have been given regularly to Merton College Library by the Peter Moores Foundation. The library building, dating from 1373, is the oldest continuously functioning library for university academics and students in the world.

Professor Dame Jessica Rawson, CBE, FBA, Warden of the College, has written that: "we have used the money to increase our holdings of literary and historical figures associated with Merton" and are "always looking for antiquarian works relevant to Merton's historic library".

The Peter Moores Foundation has encouraged the introduction of new initiatives with ChildLine for the prevention of child abuse.

For example,it was recognized that children would share their problems with other children but didn't know how, or want, to tell anyone else. The Foundation enabled ChildLine to launch the Childline in Partnership with Schools (CHIPS) scheme.

'... nobody was willing to fund it (CHIPS) and Peter said, 'I'll take a chance, just show me an outline, a plan'. We did a small one and we developed in that first year, 800 schools where young people were working with other young people to help them with their problems.'

The Royal Commonwealth Society Library was established in 1868. Its collections relate to the British Empire, the Commonwealth and member countries. This unique library contains approximately 300,000 printed items and over 70,000 photographs.

When the fortunes of the Royal Commonwealth Society deteriorated, it was proposed to sell off the library piecemeal. The Peter Moores Foundation was instrumental in saving the library, enabling it to be moved to Cambridge University.

Peter Moores gave the lead to the rest of us over saving the RCS Library. He gave the initial funding and he was utterly certain that the library was a unique collection which must be saved. I became Chairman of The Appeal to Acquire the RCS Library for the Nation. Peter was relentless in introducing people to our committee and finally raising the money required for the whole library to be moved to Cambridge University.
