The New York Times

'The Opera Rara performance, without a stellar name in sight, is right on the mark, offering some highly impressive singing. Deborah Cook is completely winning in the difficult title role, dispatching coloratura roulades accurately and eliciting sympathy for her pathetic plight at every turn.

Christian du Plessis as Hoël and Alexander Oliver as Corentin would be hard to improve upon, while James Judd has the Philharmonia Orchestra playing magnificently and the Geoffrey Mitchell Choir covers itself with glory.

This is a fascinating and valuable recording that demonstrates precisely why Meyerbeer was so highly admired by his contemporaries.'
